Part-Time Auditorium Sound and Light Technician
The City of Ottawa is recruiting for a Part-Time Auditorium Sound and Light Technician. This position is responsible for setting up sound and lights for events at Ottawa Memorial Auditorium. Work will require varying hours for event production, including significant night and weekend hours.
Essential Job Functions:
- Sets appropriate sound levels with artists, sets up related equipment, operates/supervises all board operations.
- Attend and participate in technical rehearsals and performances.
- Serve as a backstage sound technician when appropriate.
- May design lighting effects and set cues for events.
- Assist organizing all sound equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with all City ordinances and policies.
- Assist other departments and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Light and/or sound design/operations experience required.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age (required to sell or serve alcoholic beverages per Kansas law).
- Strong communication skills and customer service skills.
- Some technical knowledge of theater and/or performance operations and service.
- Knowledge of the principles of sound design, operation of sound board and equipment.
- Basic understanding of principles of lighting design, operation of computer light board equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with artists, crews, staff, patrons, business and the public.
- Ability to work under general supervision and make decisions.
- General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement and manual dexterity.
- Must have clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, and precise hand-eye coordination.
- Requires ability to lift and carry weight up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Pay Rate: $16.90-18.59/hour

Hours: Hours will vary based on event production to include evenings and weekends.
Residency: Regular, part-time and full-time employees are required to establish and maintain residency within a driving distance of 35 miles of Ottawa City Hall within one year from hire.
