Part-Time Auditorium Events Assistant
The City of Ottawa is recruiting for a Part-Time Auditorium Events Assistant. The Auditorium Events Assistant provides on-site support for Ottawa Memorial Auditorium events and rentals. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth event execution, assisting with event setup and tear down, ticket sales, concessions, hospitality, and guest relations. The Events Assistant serves as a friendly and reliable representative of the OMA, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patrons, renters, and performers. This is a PRN position with no guaranteed weekly hours; evening and weekend availability is required based on the event schedule.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with event setup and tear down, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment.
- Operate ticketing software and provide excellent customer service to patrons during ticket sales and will-call.
- Support concession and bar operations including setup, restocking, cash handling, and cleanup. Employees must meet the minimum age requirement to sell and serve alcoholic beverages under Kansas law (at least 18 years of age).
- Serve as point of contact for renters, artists, and event staff to ensure needs are met during events.
- Provide on-site hospitality for performers, rental groups, and guests as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in event and concession areas before, during, and after events.
- Assist with event logistics and general operations under the direction of the Auditorium Director or technical team.
- May work independently during non-technical or small-scale rental events.
- Ensure compliance with all City ordinances and policies.
- Assist other departments and perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age (required to sell or serve alcoholic beverages per Kansas law).
- Strong communication skills and customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to communicate effectively with artists, crews, staff, patrons, businesses and the public.
- Ability to work under general supervision and make decisions.
- Basic understanding of safety rules and practices related to theatre and event operations.
- Primarily event-based setting; moderate noise levels and periods of high activity.
- Evening, weekend, and occasional holiday shifts required.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and move for extended periods.
- Occasionally required to lift and move heavy items such as tables, chairs, and equipment.
- Frequent hand/wrist movement and manual dexterity required.
- Must have clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, and hand-eye coordination.
- Requires ability to lift and carry weight up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate multiple levels of the facility.
Pay Rate: $16.90-18.59/hour

Hours: Hours will vary based on event production to include evenings and weekends.
Residency: Regular, part-time and full-time employees are required to establish and maintain residency within a driving distance of 35 miles of Ottawa City Hall within one year from hire.
